Children and Games online!

Children Games

As a parent of a ten year old child, then you should be very careful in the process of raising and educating him or her. In this digital and technologically advanced world, there are so many seemingly and borderless normal things on the internet, but it turns out to be so dangerous for children and one of those is game online.

Just about everything around us is censored in some way or fashion. Radios are not allowed to broadcast profanity of any sort. What we see on television must follow strict guidelines for ratings and even what time a certain show may air due to content. Movies are given ratings so that everyone may easily see what kind of content they are getting themselves or others into whenever they watch. The reason for this censorship is generally to protect innocent minds from the evils of the world, at least until they are mature enough to handle the harsh reality.

For the most part this system works quite well assuming the fact that the parents take responsibility for what their child watches and has access to.

However the system has a hole that parents need to be aware of. This hole is video games. Although there are ratings similar to that of movies on each and every game box parents often fail to realize what kind of content is on the game. Many popular titles today, such as the Halo series or Grand Theft Auto series, received a rating of M (for mature, 17+) for violence and sexual content and yet there are children as young as 6 playing these games. And what is even worse they are playing online with teens and adults who rarely, if ever, censor themselves. The gaming community has no obligation to censor themselves simply due to the fact that the rating is mature. Which poses the question why are children being allowed to play such graphic games when no parent in their right mind would let their young child watch something as grotesque as say Saw, because there are many games out there that would make Saw look childish…
